COMMISSIONS

Traditionally, works have been commissioned by word of mouth on the basis of a set of ground rules, widely accepted by artists' and illustrators and by those that commission works regularly, but only partially understood by either side. For this reason, and to protect both client and myself, a "Contract to Commission Artwork" which sets out the terms and conditions of trade between artist and purchaser must be completed before any work can commence. A copy of this formal document is available on request.

COMMISSIONING A PAINTING

In the first instance please contact me to discuss your requirements. I will normally allow the purchaser to periodically view the painting in the studio as work progresses, or will forward digital images of the painting if the client is unable to visit in person. Fees for commissioning a painting depend on the medium, complexity, size, and estimated time required to complete the work. A non-refundable deposit of a 1/3rd of the total purchase price is required on commencement to cover the costs of materials, labour and time.
